Rev John was a Methodist circuit rider arriving in Texas in 1853. The cemetery is located on his homestead. He is mentioned in the History of Bell County as supporting the families of CSA men away at war in the 1860s. Later owners of the homestead were Holcomb and Ramsey. the farm was sold in 1948 to a Dr Woodson. The original homes stood until the 1970s when an arsonist torched both of them and the nearby Kegley home.
