Mazoe Tansil was born in Clarence, Missouri, the eldest child of Minnie Yancey and Lon Tansil. The family moved to La Plata, Missouri in 1887.
She attended the La Plata public schools, graduating with the class of 1900. She taught school in rural Macon County for a few years before her marriage.
Mazoe Tansil married Frank Grantges on June 20, 1906 at the home of her parents in La Plata, Missouri.
In 1908 Mazoe and Frank joined her father and brother, Leon, in the establishment of a dry goods store in La Plata. The store, Tansil-Grantges, became well known throughout Northeast Missouri for the quality and quantity of it's merchandise.
Mazoe was active socially and civically in La Plata. She was a member of Chapter BF, PEO, the Fortnightly Club, and book and bridge clubs. She was an active member of the La Plata Christian Church, and contributed her time and talent during World War I to the Red Cross.
