Clinton was born and raised in Newton and lived there all of his life.
Arriving in Vietnam 21 February 1968 Clinton was assigned to Mike Company, 2nd Battalion, 27th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division.
Clinton died as a result of gunshot wounds to the body from hostile forces small arms fire, at Le Bac (1) and Go Noi Island, 4 kilometers east of Liberty Bridge while participating in Operation Allen Brook.
Survived by his wife, Ellen F Chapman and their daughter, Elaine L Chapman and his parents, Robert and Mary J Chapman all of Newton, MS.
