The 52nd was organized 13 Mar 1862 at Camp McDonald, in Big Shanty, Ga. The soldiers came from the counties of Habersham, White, Lumpkin, Towns, Rabun, Union, Fannin, Dawson, and Franklin. Cumberland Gap, Chickasaw Bayou, Vicksburg, Champion Hill, Big Black River Bridge, Chattanooga, Atlanta Campaign, Rocky Face Ridge, Resaca, New Hope Church, Kennesaw Mountain, Peach Tree Creek, Ezra Church, Jonesboro, Franklin, Nashville, Carolinas, Bentonville. They surrendered at Durham Station, North Carolina 26 Apr 1865.
Parents are Hardy Jackson b. 1802 and Violet Arthur Jackson b. 1806 both born probably White Co. Ga....
William served from 8/4/1862-8/11/1863 when he was killed in the battle for Atlanta. Two of his brothers also died in the civil war in Richmond, Va., General M. Jackson 1830-1862.( General was his name not his rank.) Hardy and Violets daughter, Nancy Elizabeth Jackson Crumbley also lost her husband Leonder Crumbley in the civil war.( or he died from his wounds.) My G.G. grandfather Brinkley Jackson was the brother of Hardy Jackson. Brinkleys daughter Jemima Jackson Thompson, is my Great grandmother. The civil war correspondence of Leander and Nancy Crumbley are on the White Co. website.
