Elmer Rudolph Albrecht, age 88 of Park Rapids, MN, formerly of Browerville, MN was peacefully promoted into Glory on July 10, 2010 at the Hyatt House Assisted Care Center in Park Rapids, MN.
Elmer was born on June 14, 1922 to Rudolph and Selma (Busse) Albrecht on their farm in Beauford Township near Mapleton, MN. It was in this same area that he attended the District 95 Country School near his home. He went on to attend high school in Mapleton, MN. As a young man, Elmer enlisted in 1944 in the United States Army where he proudly served his country as a radio operator for the 26th Infantry Battalion in the European theatre of World War II. Since he could speak German fluently, he was asked to serve as a switchboard operator during the Nuremberg trials in Germany. He was honorably discharged late in 1946 and returned home to farm near Mapleton, MN. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Mae Bergquist on September 27, 1952 at the Lewis Lake Covenant Church south of Ogilvie, MN. This union was blessed with two daughters: Shirley and Karen. The couple farmed near Mapleton for four years until moving to the Ogilvie area in 1956 where they farmed. In 1966, they moved to Cambridge, MN where Elmer farmed for two years prior to moving to the Milaca area. In 1971, Elmer moved with his family to the Browerville area where they put down their roots and he continued farming until his retirement. Elmer was a man of faith who treasured the time he could spend learning about the Lord and worshipping with other believers. Early in life he was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Mapleton, MN and for many years was very active in the work of the Lincoln Evangelical Free Church in Lincoln, MN where he served on the deacon board and other vital areas of church life. Elmer's life was forever changed by the death of his beloved wife, Dorothy on June 19, 1997. Elmer loved farm life. For many years he dairy farmed and later raised hogs and crops. Each spring he looked forward to planting a large vegetable garden which he nurtured into fruitful abundance to share with family and friends. He also enjoyed raising many beautiful flowers into colorful splendor for all to enjoy. Due to failing health, Elmer became a resident at the Hyatt House in Park Rapids in 2007. Above all, Elmer devoted his life to serving the Lord and to his wife, daughters and grandchildren who he loved with all his heart.
He will be lovingly remembered by his two daughters: Shirley Mason of Wadena, MN and Karen (David) Vocelka of Park Rapids, MN; six grandchildren: Mindy Millar, John Vocelka, James Vocelka, Elizabeth Vocelka, Michelle Mason and Sabrina Mason; ten great grandchildren; two brothers: Lester (Darlene) Albrecht and George (Kay) Albrecht all of Mapleton, MN as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services are set for 11 AM Friday July 16, 2010 at the Lincoln Evangelical Free Church at Lincoln with the Reverend Jim Brown officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM on Thursday, July 15, 2010 at the Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids and for one hour prior to the services at the church on Friday. Interment will be made in the Lewis Lake Covenant Church Cemetery south of Ogilvie, MN. The casketbearers will be: Ronald Albrecht, Larry Albrecht, Ryan Millar, David Vocelka, John Vocelka and James Vocelka . Following the funeral service a luncheon will be hosted by the Lincoln Evangelical Free Church for all.
