Carl Lyle Neely, 63, of Chesterfield, Va., passed away on Tuesday, February 8, 2011, at his residence.

Carl Lyle served with the 1st Infantry Division in Vietnam as a sniper and was awarded multiple Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star Medal for Valor. He was a Boilermaker and Welder, a member of The Ghost Riders, life member of the NRA and VFW, was a gifted singer and loved his family dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Edith Blankenship Neely.

He is survived by his wife, Sharlotte Sexton Neely; daughter, Carly Neely Dickerson; stepson, Charles D. Winnie III; six grandchildren; sisters, Patricia Walker and Carol Ballard; and brothers, James W. and Thomas E. Dennis, and Allen R. Neely. Also surviving are sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and Charles Western, Connie Sexton and Melvin, and Trisha Sexton.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, February 13, 2011, at the Chesterfield Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home, 14301 Ashbrook Pkwy. His funeral will be held 11 a.m. Monday, February 14, 2011, in the chapel and interment with Military Honors in Virginia Veterans Cemetery, Amelia Va. In addition there will be a memorial service held on Saturday, February 12, 2011, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the VFW Post in Narrows, Va.
