Son of Lambert M and Lena H 'Hammer' Alford. He moved to Chillicothe in 1936 as district manager for Nabisco Co. He later established Alford Sign Co. He was a member of the Christian Church, Chillicothe Shrine Club, Kiwanis Club, Friendship Lodge 89 AF & AM, and was active in community affairs. He married Adaline Reese on September 24, 1938 in Ft Smith, AR. Their children were: James R., William E Jr., Sue and Ann.
