Austin Gene Blubaugh, 82, Berlin, died May 6, 2009, after a long illness. Born Feb. 15, 1927, near Pine Hill, he was preceded in death by his parents, Austin Ferdinand and Leila Olive (Salkeld) Blubaugh; brothers and sisters, Edna Rebecca Stidham, Virginia Louise Witt, Richard Floyd Blubaugh, Herbert Roy Blubaugh, Clayton Blubaugh, Ralph Salkeld Blubaugh, William Stewart Blubaugh; and a son, David Gene Blubaugh. Gene is survived by his wife of 61 years, Pauline Grace (Weyant); sons, Douglas Arthur, Berlin (married to Sheree Troy Blubaugh), and Dennis Neil, Perrysburg, Ohio; grandson, Aaron Troy Blubaugh (married to Erin Pickard Blubaugh); great-granddaughter, Elliot Ehrin Blubaugh; brother, Thomas Earl Blubaugh, Macedonia Ohio; sister, Doris LaVerne Miller, Meyersdale; and many, many nieces and nephews. After graduating from Berlin Brothersvalley Joint High School, Gene joined the Army Air Corps where he served in intelligence as an agent and clerk in Germany, France and North Africa. After the war he returned to Berlin and worked as a bookkeeper for Poorbaugh Lumber Co., then in sales for Gilmour Supply Co. In 1964 he founded Blubaugh Auto Parts (now Blubaugh Supply Co. Inc.) and ran a very successful family business until his retirement in 1992. He remained active in the family business and held the title of president of Blubaugh Supply Co. Inc. from 1992 until his death. In his retirement he became an excellent furniture builder and traveled the area performing in "Just Us," a country music group he formed with his wife Pauline and other friends. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, reading, crosswords, and spending time with his family, especially his new great-grandaughter, Elliot. Gene was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Berlin, American Legion Post 445, Berlin World War II Last Man's Club, Berlin Volunteer Fire Department, Berlin Community Grove Association, Masonic Lodge 354, and served as president of the Pine Hill Cemetery Association. Family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin, where a service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, the Rev. Dr. John W. Harmon officiating. Interment at Pine Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Pine Hill Cemetery Association c/o Douglas Blubaugh, president, 466 Mason-Dixon Highway, Berlin, PA 15530.
