Helen S. (Blacha) Litwin, 88, formerly of Glastonbury, beloved wife of the late Edward J. Litwin, died Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at The Atrium in Agawam, MA.
Born in Glastonbury on November 17, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Antoni and Mary (Tryka) Blacha. After graduating from Glastonbury High School, Class of 1940, marriage to Ed, and raising a family, Helen worked many years as a bookkeeper at The Aetna Life and Casualty Insurance Company, retiring in 1994. Helen was a devoted mother and wife, and enjoyed traveling with Ed. She was a member of the Glastonbury Fine Arts Commission, Beta Sigma Phi sorority, Glastonbury Grange #26, and was a Life Member of the Altar Guild of St Augustine Roman Catholic Church in South Glastonbury. Helen also served as Democratic Registrar of Voters, and was Secretary of the Glastonbury Democratic Town Committee.
Helen is survived by her sons James Litwin and his wife Kathryn Wesbecher of Granville, MA, and Ronald Litwin and his wife Sue of Vernon, CT; grandchildren Annie Litwin and Anthony Litwin, both of Vernon; and a sister Pat Shaer of Lakeland, FL; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Besides her parents and husband, Helen was predeceased by 3 brothers. Helen's family sends a special thanks to the staff at The Atrium assisted living facility in Agawam, MA for the wonderful care given her.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, January 24, 2011, beginning at 9:00am at the Glastonbury Funeral Home, 450 New London Turnpike, Glastonbury, followed at 10:00am by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Augustine Church, 55 Hopewell Road, South Glastonbury. Burial will be at St. Augustine Cemetery at a later date. Calling Hours will be Sunday, January 23 from 2:00 to 5:00pm at the funeral home.
