Thomas D. Carr, formerly of Jenkintown, died Sunday, October 20, at the Wyncote Church Home in Wyncote. He was 81. He was the husband of Helen Claire Carr. They would have celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary in November. Born in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Thomas J.and Elizabeth Curley Carr. Mr. Carr attended the Engineering Schools at Drexel University and Temple University in the 1940's. He was a Metallurgist and taught Metallurgy courses at Temple University and Spring Garden Institute in the 1970's. For 47 years, he was employed by Philadelphia Electric Co. as Superintendent of Maintenance. He retired in 1979. In the late 1940's, and early 1950's, he was Boy Scout leader for Troop 56, which he started in the Fox Chase/Abington area. Mr.Carr was a Councilman for the Borough of Jenkintown in the 1970's. He was an active member and Deacon at Calvary Assembly of God Church in Wyncote during the 1980's. During this time, he also served on the Board of the Hiway Home for the Aged in Hatfield. Mr. Carr worked with various charitable organizations, such as Teen Challenge and Valley Forge Christian College, to name a few.
