Memorial services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. in the chapel of the Dudley Hoffman Mortuary for Francis (Jay) Davenport, 38, who died as a result of injuries suffered in an automobile accident. Private inurnment will be held at a later date.
Mr. Davenport was born April 8, 1950 in Evansville, Ind. He had lived in Santa Maria since 1953, attending local schools. He graduated from Righetti High School in 1968. He worked as a carpenter in Santa Maria for 15 years, the last six of which he spent as a building contractor and co-owner of Doane Building Co. He was a successful breeder and expert handler of champion German Shepherds. He was a member of the German Shepherd Dog Club of America, and President of the German Shepherd Dog Club of Central California. He was also a member of the Santa Maria Kennel Club, and had judged at different dog shows for all breeds.
Mr. Davenport is survived by his wife, Stephanie Davenport, Santa Maria; sons, Michael and Erin Davenport, Santa Maria; mother Maria Davenport, Santa Maria; brother Bill Davenport, San Francisco; sisters, Joyce Voth and Thelma Sahara, Santa Maria; granddaughter Jordan Frances Davenport; and numerous nieces and nephews.
