George Washington Voorhies, age 76, of Albertville, Alabama, passed away at his residence on Friday.
He was born on February 22, 1934, to Ernie & Clara (Reed) Voorhies. He married, Rebecca on October 9, 1954 and she survives.
Also surviving are one son: Danny L. Voorhies and his wife Diana; one daughter; Diana J. Freshour and husband, Joseph "Joe" Freshour (1951-2015) ; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ernest Dale Voorhies and Orval Lee "Grass" Voorhies (1947-2019); three sisters, Helen Kent (1937-2016), Margaret York and Mary Baker.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Estel Lee Voorhies and Dexter Dean Voorhies and two sisters, Janet Sue Voorhies Schmidt and Juanita Voorhies Baker

George was a very interesting personality. He had very poor beginnings, but he never gave up on anything. He was a self-taught person. If he wanted to do anything, he did not give up on it. He was a carpenter, an operating engineer of heavy machinery, and farmer. The one thing that he accomplished was to fly a small airplane. He was 69 years old when he got his single engine land flying certificate from the "Dept. of Transportation, Federal Aviation Administration". We have two children, seven grandchildren & eight great-grandchildren. All still living as of this day in Sept. 9, 2016. We all miss him and he is loved dearly.
Follow up on grandchildren. We now in February 2020 have two more great-grandchildren & two great-great-grandchild.
