Grace Anna May Boldridge

Grace Anna May Boldridge, 92, of Atchison, Kansas passed away on January 7, 2011.

Grace was born January 22, 1918, in Doniphan, Kansas to the union of Rev. Oliver Burton and Mattie Elizabeth January Burton. She attended Union #3 School in Doniphan.

She and Melvin Boldridge were united in marriage on May 8, 1937 in Leavenworth, Kansas. Mr. Boldridge preceded her in death on September 4, 1983.

Ms. Grace as she was fondly known by her family and close friends served in a domestic capacity for several families in the Atchison area including those of Mrs. Lois Lukens and Claude Glaman. She and her husband lived on a farm south of Atchison and Grace assisted with the farming and raising hogs and always prepared a full meal for the workers. Ms. Grace was also known for her abilities of making floral arrangements for weddings, social events and request from numerous community church functions. She was an active member of the Second Christian Church where she served on the usher board, as church treasurer and as the "Chief" and "Commander" in the church kitchen for numerous church socials and functions as well as funeral luncheons for families of the church. She was also a member of the Christian Women's Fellowship Group.

Grace Anna May Boldridge is survived by two daughters, Peggy Roper, Atchison, KS, Edith Sharp, Des Moines, IA, three sons, Norman (Sharon) Boldridge, Atchison, KS, Marvin (Marjorie) Boldridge, Atchison, KS, Calvin (Nancy) Boldridge, Atchison, KS, nineteen grandchildren and thirty great grandchildren and a close and special cousin, Richard January, Leavenworth, KS.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter, Colleen Cole, a son, Lawrence Franklin Boldridge, two sisters, Sophia Cambell, Elizabeth Burton, nine brothers, John H. Burton, George W. Burton, Frank A. Burton, Oliver James "Tom" Burton, L. Raymond Burton, Carl A. Burton, Charles R. Burton, Ed Burton and Chrissy Burton.

The family wishes to express a special thanks to Carla Hysten as caregiver and to Atchison Hospice for their assistance.

Services to be held on Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at 11:00 a.m., at the First Christian Church with Rev. Paul Kelley, Sr. officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Vernon Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be for one hour preceding these services at the church. The final arrangements have been entrusted to Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home of Atchison, Kansas.
