Descended from a family of entertainers who had emigrated from Italy to England in the mid-17th Century, Stanley Lupino was a well-known comedian. In addition to appearing at the music-halls and at Drury Lane Theatre, he wrote many plays and novels, as well as a volume of reminiscences, "From the Stocks to the Stars" (1934). He was the uncle of Lupino Lane (Bill Snibson in "Me and My Girl"), and was married to the actress Connie Emerald, who is buried in California, as was their daughter, the distinguished actress and director Ida Lupino.
