Mass of Christian Burial for Stella V. Davis, 78, of Belcourt, ND was held Thursday, March 18, 2004, in St. Ann's Catholic Church, Belcourt, with Father Bob Cronin S.O.L.T. as the celebrant.

Burial was in St. Ann's Cemetery, Belcourt. She passed away Friday, March 12, 2004, in Presentation Medical Center, Rolla, ND.

Pallbearers were Tony Davis, Tim Davis, Jeff Davis, Todd Davis, Rodney Davis, Gary Malo, Perry Poitra and Randy Morin. Honorary pallbearers were Jered Davis, Kevin Smith, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Special music was provided by Linda Peltier and family and BI Marcellais. Altar servers were Nathan and Merten Davis and Michael Poitra. Eulogy was given by family friend, Brother Richard Paquette C.M.F.

Stella was born on June 19, 1925, in a log house on the family farm west of Belcourt in Ingebretson Township of Rolette County to Joseph and Caroline (Gladue) Monette. There were 10 children in the family.

Her first day of school was the first day the new elementary school opened in Belcourt in October 1931. She also attended Roussin School, where she was educated until she was 11 years old. She then went off to Marty, SD, to a Catholic boarding school. She graduated from St. Paul's High School on May 22, 1944.

She then moved back to Belcourt and started working for the Bureau of Indian Affairs as a clerk in 1945. Through her tenure at the Turtle Mountain Agency, she rose through the ranks and retired from the government in 1982 as Tribal Enrollment Specialist.

She married John Davis on January 7, 1952, at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Belcourt. They made their home in Belcourt where they raised their eight children. John passed away on May 29, 1984.

Stella is survived by sons: Tony (Patty) Davis of St. John, Tim (Emily) Davis of Belcourt, Jeff (Betty) Davis of Cedar Spring, MI, Todd Davis of Belcourt and Rodney Davis of Minot; daughters: Peggy (Perry) Poitra of Belcourt, Carrie (Randy Morin) Davis of Belcourt, and Bonnie (Gary) Malo of Bismarck; 16 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; sister, Theresa "Resa" Davis of Belcourt; brothers: Fred "Fritz" (Marie) Monette, Johnny (Doris) Monette, both of Belcourt and Joseph James "JJ" (Mary) Monette of Devils Lake; sisters-in-law: Emma (Frank) of Belcourt, Betty (Ray) of Seattle, WA; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins; special friends: Theresa Brien, Madeline Keplin and Pete LaFountain; special caregiver, Sherry Delorme; and many other friends.

Stella was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; brothers: George, Frank, Walter "Chub", Elmer and Ray; and grandsons Tony and Tyler Davis.
