Edith Vivian Ferry died Monday, Dec. 27, 2010 at the age of 87. She was born Oct. 15, 1923 in Orland, CA to John M. Rose and Marie Rose, she had 3 brothers who predeceased her; Benson Ponci, Elmer Ponci and Johnny Rose.

She attended Plaza School. She married George Ferry on July 7, 1940. While raising three children, she and George purchased a dairy/walnut farm in Orland. She worked several years at T.M. Duche while raising her children, then went to school to be a Certified Nursing Assistant, then received her LVN nursing license in 1975. She worked at Glenn General Hospital, Willow View, then in Chico at Beverly Manor and N.V. Care. She was an extremely dedicated nurse and passed away in Windsor Chico Care (formerly Beverly Manor) with her family at her side.

She and George purchased property in Forest Ranch and built their own home, moving there from Orland and leaving many dear friends. They were very involved in the Forest Ranch community and made many new dear friends there. George passed away Feb. 2003, after 62 years of marriage. Edith kept up the home and property in Forest Ranch. She was an avid gardener and loved walking in Forest Ranch, usually picking up litter along her walk. She resided in Forest Ranch until Alzheimer's forced her move. She was extremely well cared for at Sierra Manor and Windsor Chico Care. The family thanks all the dedicated staff in those places for their care and concern for her.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, DeEtta and Doug Mayberry of Williams, Darlene and Scott Neuhart of Chico, and a son and daughter-in-law, Delvin and Carol Ferry of Willows; eight grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

"Grammy" will be dearly missed and remembered by all.

Services are under the arrangements of F.D. Sweet & Son Mortuary in Orland, and will be at St. Dominic's Catholic Church in Orland on Thursday, December 30, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. with burial in the Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, visit a loved one in a hospital or nursing home.
