Son of William Benefiel (1797-1870) & Jane Kain (1801-1873 dau of John and __ Wilson Kain. Married (1) Aug 19, 1860 in Pulaski Co., Ind. to Margaret Jane Brown who died Juy 24, 1862 with no children.

Isaac married (2) Jan 14, 1866 Winamac, Ind. Sarah Jane (Dukes) Benefiel (widow of Isaac's brother Levi). Isaac enlisted Jan 1, 1864 at Winamac, Harrison twp, Pulaski Co., Ind. as Pvt. in Co. B 87th Ind. Infantry; June 1865 transferred to Co. B. 42nd Ind. Inf., mustered out in Louisville, Ky. July 21, 1865, Isaac joined the M. E. church at age 20, and remained a faithful member till his death. He was also a member of the E.M. Stanton G.A.R. Post, who laid him to his final rest.

Isaac and Sarah moved to KS in 1869 and located in Elk Co. In 1878 Isaac and some of his older sons drove a wagon team to western Kansas to Stafford co to homestead. After a short stay, they returned to central Kansas to look for land in Butler co, four miles south of Augusta. They decided to return to better farm land and homesteaded near Longton, KS in 1880-1882. The family later moved to Howard, KS. They made their home here for many years. After Isaac's death Sarah moved to Independence, KS. Isaac was a farmer and stonemason.
