"Lena" Guffey's exact date of birth can not be determined. It would seem that the dates on her headstone (born: 1887) couldn't be correct. The birth of her first child (first of many) dates around 1897. It's very unlikely that Lena Phillips started a family at the age of 10 years old. Also it should be noted that her date of death has never been updated at her gravemarker as well.

Malinda "Lena" Phillips was most likely born in the late 1870's. Many census records for Jackson and Marshall county, Alabama say that she was born in 1879. She was the daughter of James "Jay" H. Guffey and Malinda (Prator) Guffey. According to her marriage records, she and Seaborn Phillips were wed on July 9, 1897 in Jackson County, Missouri. Lena and Seaborn had a very large family. They spent the majority of their lives in Marshall county raising their children.

On February 16, 1937 Lena Phillips husband of almost 40 years, passed away. Lena followed Seaborn in death about 25 years after on January 8, 1963. She left behind many children and grandchildren in Marshall county, Alabama.
