There is a name written in the Lamb's Book of life. It is Betty F. Broussard. On Sunday, March 31, 1940, in Lake Charles, a baby girl, given the name Betty Hayes Franklin, was born to Hayes and Jacindy (Drake) Franklin.
She expressed her faith in God and dedicated her life to Christian service at the age of 8 in 1948, under the pastorage of the Rev. W.C. Clark, at Christian Baptist Church. Betty attended First Ward Colored School, Second Ward Colored School, and graduated from W.O. Boston High School in 1958. She graduated from McNeese State College in 1962. She married Leonard G. Broussard in 1960. From this union are two sons, Byron Lynn Broussard and Patrick Jerome Broussard. Until 1979, she was a teacher at Riverside Elementary and E.K. Key Elementary in the Calcasieu Parish School System. From 1979-1987 she operated a child care center. Betty was a faithful, dedicated and devoted servant of God. She was a member of Christian Baptist Church where she worked diligently in the Esther Joubert Circle No. 6 in the Women's Missionary Department. She also was a member of the Christian Baptist Church Sanctuary Choir.
Among those left to cherish her memories are her devoted husband, Leonard G. Broussard; two sons, Pastor Byron L. Broussard and wife Carol Alexander Broussard of Atlanta and Minister Patrick J. Broussard and wife Lynell Rigmaiden Broussard of Lake Charles; grandchildren, Amanda Nicole Broussard, Austin Kyle Broussard, Kayla Marie James-McCoy and Kyra Nicole Broussard; brothersin-law and sisters-in-law; and many relatives and friends.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday Dec. 27, in Christian Baptist Church. The Rev. Edward Alexander will officiate. Burial will be in Combre Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Combre Funeral Home. Visitation is from 9 a.m. Monday in the church.
