Mrs. Newton Dearing Buried At Grottoes
Grottoes, June 5 -- Funeral services for Mrs. Newton Dearing, were held from the Presbyterian Church here. The pastor, Rev. Mr. Preston, and the Rev. Campbell officiating. Mrs. Dearing was the last surviving member of the family of Zachariah Raines.
She will be remembered in this community for her many acts of kindness, especially to the sick, and was a mother to the motherless. Mrs. Dearing leaves a large circle of friends who mourn her departure.
The following children survive:
Lee and Thomas Dearing, Camden, Ohio; Newton Dearing, Jr., of Clarksburg, W.Va.; Mrs. Ada Fielding, of Stoffle, W.Va.; Mrs. Laura Hudgins, Mrs. Mattie Randall, and Lester Dearing, of Grottoes; and Mrs. Bettie Walker, of Lynchburg.
Pallbearers were W.H. Raines, Whit Raines, Robert Raines, Arthur Raines, and Clint Dearing.

Isaac Newton Dearing (Thomas3, Lewis2, Jeremiah1) was born October 1846 in Page County, Virginia, and died March 20, 1921 in Grottoes, Rockingham County, Virginia. He married Sarah Angeline Raines January 17, 1867 in Port Republic Rockingham County Virginia., daughter of Zachariah Raines and Sarah Sipe. Zachariah Raines was known as the Commodore of the Shenandoah.

~Lester V. Dearing, born February 1885
~Bettie Dearing, born January 1886
~Homer Dearing, born 1888; died 1890 in Grottoes, Rockingham County, Virginia
