James Barr married first Mary Louisa Octavia Morgan 26 Dec 1883 Wilson Co Kansas; divorced ca 1888. They had three daughters in that five years. Mary Louisa left Jim Barr And Took The three Girls To Okla Indian Territory Where She Married Oliver W. Cooper. The Girls Were Raised UnderThe Name COOPER. The girls did not know until they were grown that Mr. Cooper was not their father.
James married second Ella V. Wood about 1896. She died in 1909. He married third Mary E (last name unknown) about 1911. He was a "railroad man" headquartered at LaJunta Colo for some years.

James H. Barr was born in Chillicothe, Ohio, June 1st, 1854. He died at his home in Yates Center, Kansas, Wednesday, December 4, 1918, age 63 years, 7 months and 4 days.

Mr. Barr came to Kansas in 1874 and settled at Fredonia. He came to Yates Center about 1898 where he has since made his home with the exception of a short while that he was with his brother Wm. F. Barr of Wakita, Oklahoma. The 1893 list of homestead claims filed in Oklahoma includes BARR JAS. of WELLINGTON KS

As a fellow townsman, Mr. Barr was held in high esteem by all who knew him. For a number of years he was our city marshall. Many are the kind words that people have to say of him in his effort to make and keep Yates Center a good place for folks to live in.

The last years of his life were spent as caretaker of the Yates Center Cemetery. His pride seemed to be in helping to lighten the sorrows of others by making the graves of their loved ones look as cheerful as possible.

Mr. Barr was a member of I.O.O.F. and M.W.A. fraternities and was held in brotherly favor with all his fellows, they rendering much assistance in his last sickness. His going out from among us is much regretted by all. He leaves to mourn, his wife Mrs. Mary E. Barr, two sisters, Mrs. Tilda Branch of Buffalo, Okla., and Mrs. Etta Taulhaber of Nebr., three brothers W. F. Barr of Wakita, Okla. Jno. A. Barr of Marion, Kans., and Geo. Barr of La Junta, Col. Only his brother William was able to attend the funeral. The others were detained in their homes by sickness.

The funeral was conducted in the home by Rev. C. V. Shulenberger. The I.O.O.F. and M.W.A. orders gave their funeral services at the grave. Interment was made in the Yates Center Cemetery.

W.F. (William Frederick) BARR came up from Wakita, Okla. one day last week on account of the illness of his brother, the late Jas. Barr, and remained until Monday afternoon of this week. Mr. Barr used to live here 16 years ago and helped with the building of the courthouse. He was wonderfully surprised at the improvement in the town since he left here.
