He died from wounds received December14, 2010, when he was shot by a sniper while leading his platoon conducting combat operations in Helmand Province, southern Afghanistan. He joined the Marine Corps in July 2007 and was promoted to corporal in January 2009. Among his military awards and decorations were the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Afghanistan campaign medal; Global War on Terrorism service medal; and the NATO International Security Assistance Force medal.

He was survived by his parents; and four siblings.

Interment on January 4, 2011.
