J. L. Adams Found Murdered in Tank on Thomas Farm :

Funeral serices were held at the Church of Christ of which he was a member for J. L. ADAMS, age 51, Friday afternoon at 5 o'clock. A great host of bereaved friends and relatives attended the service for this man whose useful life was ended at the hands of ruthless murderers. Mr. Adams was well known in Groesbeck and highly respected. He had for several years been the manager of the Parker and Adams Dairy Farm, relinguishing that position sometime last fall. Mr. Adams had lived in Mexia at one time and was residing in Thronton at the time of his death.

Surviving the deceased is his wife ; his son, Dwaine Adams of Groesbeck ; daughter, Mrs. Cora Bell O'Neal of Houston ; brothers, Jim Adams of Houston & Andrew Adams of Ocola, Florida ; sisters, Mrs. A. P. Graham of Palestine, Mrs. J. C. Whitmire of Corpus Christi and his 76 year old mother, Mrs. E. A. Adams of Palestine.

Groesbeck, TX Newspaper.... J. L. Adams was found in a tank on the Sam A. Thomas farm one mile south of Groesbeck on the old Thronton Road, he had been shot thru the head, a gag was in his mouth and a belt was strapped around his neck.

The tank where the body was found was drained Friday by Groesbeck Fire Department. A pistol, the murdered man's hat and 24 cents in change were uncovered when the tank was emptied. No trouble was had in securing volunteers to wade into the tank to help drain it. Charles Herring, Jr plunged in, clothes and all and stayed with the job all day. A mystery note was received off the Rt 2 mail about 12 0'clock last Tuesday & was addressed to Dwaine Adams.
