Franklin was a farmer his whole life and probably lived in the area just northeast of Waneta and Lamoka Lakes as he is found variously in Yates, Schuyler and Steuben counties. He married first ~1846 Mary Ann Goble, born ~1827, probably near Bradford. She was the daughter of Timothy and Polly Goble and is listed as Mary Ann Barkley (Goble), daugher, in her father's will, Feb 3, 1849. Son-in-law Franklin Barkley and James Barkley (prob Franklin's father), "special guardian," are also mentioned in Timothy's will. Franklin and Mary had four children: James T, Lucretia, Alwilda and Clarence Adelbert. Mary died some time between 1855 (census for Town of Orange, Schuyler Co., in which she appears) and 1860 (census for Bradford, Franklin appears with wife Mercy). Franklin married second ~1857 Mercy Weaver (nee Butler), widow of Peter Weaver. Franklin and Mercy had four children: Abram, Jesse, George and Albert.
