In 1837, he came to Roscoe, IL. Henry and his son Franklin built a saw mill at the mouth of the North Kinnikinnick Creek. Here it was proposed to build the village of Roscoe.
The settlers' mail was picked up in Chicago by the wagon haulers. Later the post office was established in Beloit, Wisconsin, and Henry set up a post office in his home. The stage to Beloit dropped off the mail for Roscoe, and the receiver paid the postage which was 25 cents for a letter.
