My great-uncle, John Willis Smith was born February 12, 1876 in Abbeville, South Carolina. John was the son of Willis (1817-1899)and Mary [née Anderson] (1835-1911) Smith; brother of M. Isabelle Smith (1867-1934), Della Lillian Smith (1872) and Olivia M. Smith (1877-1938).
John was married to Miss Janie Blanche Muse, a daughter of Rev. Joseph B. & Essie [née Devlin] Muse from Verdery, South Carolina.
After their wedding, John and Janie moved to Greenwood; where he was a banker. There was only one child, Willis Lowry "Larry" Smith; born August 9th, 1916.
John Willis Smith died December 23, 1948. He is buried beside his wife, Janie Muse Smith and their son, W. Lowry Smith in the Magnolia Cemetery.
