Teacher at Logan Junior High School. The son of Ezra Taft Benson and Mary Knight, his father was an Apostle of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS).

Mr. Benson lived all of his life in Logan. On 29 March 1884, he married Margaret Ann Morgan in the Logan LDS Temple, and was active in the local LDS Church. He was also a member of the Logan City School Board, and was a fire chief in Logan, and served as city councilman. In his mid-70s, he was asked why he did not retire and live on a pension, to which he replied "As long as I am able to work, I want to do my part. Somehow I don't feel it is right to live off the govenment when a man is able to get around." He and his wife had seven children: Sarah May (born 22 Dec 1884), Ezra Taft (born 31 May 1886), Ora Larenzo (born 1 Aug 1887), Leray (born 10 Sept 1889), Genivie (born 9 Oct 1892), Morgan (born 4 May 1895), and Ira Knight (born 4 Jan 1899).
