First buried in Fairmount Cemetery in Denver, Colorado on November 10, 1941. Removed to McKee Cemetery in Clintonville, Venango, Pennsylvania on October 13, 1953. His beloved wife was laid to rest next to him in 1957.

Rev. R.J. Phipps, Presbyterian Pastor, Closes Useful Career in 82nd Year. Good-Natured Minister Still Popular in Littleton After Absence of Decade.
Dr. Robert Jackson Phipps, 82, beloved pastor of the Littleton Presbyterian church from 1923 to 1931, died in his home at 1453 S. Fillmore st., Denver, early Friday.
Dr. Phipps had suffered a heart attack Thursday, and at 2 o'clock that night he said he wanted to go downstairs and lie on the couch. It was there he peacefully passed away in his sleep a few minutes later. His respose was undisturbed until morning when his body was brought to the Nickels-Hill mortuary in Littleton.
The former Littleton pastor was born Jan 31, 1859, at Kennerdell Mills, Venango county, Pennsylvania. He was educated at the Witherspoon Institute, Butler, Pa.; Edinboro Normal School, Edinboro, Pa.; and Dayton Union Academy, Armstrong county, Pa.
Taught School at 15 - Dr. Phipps taught school for five years, beginning at the age of 15, sandwiching in his education as best he could. He graduated from Lafayette college in 1883 with a bachelor of arts degree. He then spent two years at Princeton Theological seminary and one year at Western Theological seminary at Pittsburgh, receiving his A.M. degree in 1886 from Lafayette which gave him credit for his theological studies. Dr. Phipps received his honorary doctor of divinity degree from the College of Emporia (Kansas) in 1907, William Allen White being one of the board of trustees that granted the honor.
Married 55 Years - Dr. Phipps married Arthalinda McKee of Clintonville, Venango county, Pa., on May 13, 1886. The couple had five sons, three of whom are living. (John Canan died in infancy and Thomas Ethelbert in 1923.)
The minister's first pastorate was the old Montours Presbyterian church, near Pittsburgh. In 1889 he was sent to Oberlin, Kan. where he stayed until 1892. He was then transferred to the Presbyterian church, at Manhattan, Kan., where he met Henry Allen, later governor of Kansas, who often attended his services. Other pastorates were: Hebron, Neb., 1899-02; Hiawatha, Kan., 1902-13; El Reno, Okla., 1913-19; Pocatello, Idaho, 1919-23; Littleton 1923-31. Since 1931 Dr. Phipps has been retired on a pension, doing frequent supply work and being in demand among Littleton residents at weddings and funeral services.
Mason 52 Years - Dr. Phipps gave 45 years of continuous service in the Presbyterian church. As he was a Mason for 52 years, members of Weston Lodge conducted the last rites at the cemetery Monday. During his years in Littleton he was secretary of the Rotary club, where he was popular among the businessmen for his sense of humor and his genial manner.
Since his retirement Dr. Phipps has enjoyed working in his yard. When inside he spent his time reading the classics, philosophy, history, and scientific and religious books. He also delved into genealogy and compiled the Phipps family record. He was a descendant of Joseph Phipps, duke of Lincolnshire, England, who came to Pennsylvania with William Penn and the Quakers.
Survivors - Surviving Dr. Phipps are his wife and three sons, Robert Karl of the Sinclair Oil Co., Kansas City; Frank McKee of the May Co., Denver; and the Rev. Paul Anderson Phipps, Episcopal clergyman. (The Rev. Mr. Phipps was pastor in Manitou Springs, Colo., until Sept. last, when he began graduate study at the Philadelphia Divinity School.) There are eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Dr. Phipps attended St. Michael's and All Angels Episcopal church at S. University ave. and E. Arkansas ave. since his retirement, and his funeral services were conducted there by the Rev. Albert Martyr on Monday. Mrs. Frank Phipps, his daughter-in-law, was the soloist.
Dr. Phipps' three sons and three grandsons (Jack, Tom, and Eugene Phipps) served as pallbearers. Burial was at Fairmount cemetery.
