Julia Allen, State Pioneer Is Dead At 88
Prescott, June 3 - Mrs. Julia Allen, 88 years old, a resident of Yavapai county for 71 years, died at Prescott Saturday.
The Arizona pioneer came to Yavapai from Bloomington, Ill., by ox cart in 1879. On the trip her party successfully fought off an Indian attack.
For many years, Mrs. Allen made her home in Cherry, Ariz., later moving to Big Bog to live with her daughter, Mrs. Giles Goswick. In addition to Mrs. Goswick, she is survived by three other daughters, Mrs. Charles Battye, of San Bernardino, Calif., Mrs. Rob McKray, San Bernardino, and Mrs. Charles Wilson, Camp Verde; three sons, Hugh of Cherry, Richard of Prescott and Lee of Prescott.
There are 17 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Viewing will be from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday at the Ruffner Funeral Home in Prescott.
Burial will follow at the family burial plot at Cherry.

Allen Funeral to Be Conducted Here Tomorrow
Graveside funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow for Mrs. Julia Allen, pioneer resident of Yavapai county, who died Saturday. She was 88 years old.
The services are to be conducted at the family plot in the Cherry cemetery at Cherry, with the Rev. Charles Franklin Parker of the First Congregational church in Prescott officiating.
The body will lie in state at the Ruffner Funeral Home from 9 a.m. until noon tomorrow.
Mrs. Allen had lived in the county for 71 years. When she moved to the county with her family from Bloomington, Ill. by ox cart in 1879, they had to fight off bands of Indians.
Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Giles Gosweick of Mayer, Mrs. Charles Battye of San Bernardino, Calif., Mrs. Rob Mckray, San Bernardino, and Mrs. Charles Wilson, Camp Verde; three sons, Hugh who lives in Cherry, and Richard and Lee, both of Prescott.
There are 19 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
