Roy O. Creech

Roy O. Creech, 70, of Cloverlick Road in Cumberland, was dead on arrival at Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital Wednesday following a brief illness.

A native of London, he had lived in Harlan County since 1920. He was a retired miner who worked 33 years for U.S. Steel Co. in Lynch, retiring in 1978. He was a member of the Baptist faith, a member of Local 7425 of UMWA and a member of the Junior Order of Mechanics.

Son of the late John Henry and Patsy Parsley Creech, he is survived by his wife, Martha Creech, Cumberland; three children, Owen Creech, Cumberland; Leroy Creech, Pontiac, Mich.; Curtis Creech, Fortville, Ind.; two sisters, Rebecca White and Mae White Dixon, both of Cumberland; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Parker Memorial Funeral Home in Cumberland with the Rev. Bruce Walzer and Rev. John Dixon officiating.

Burial will follow in Cornett Peaceful Acres Cemetery in Hiram. Pallbearers will be Tom Jones, Charles Myers, Michael Owen Creech, Jeffrey Allen Creech, Michael Allen Creech, Stephen Creech and Stanley Creech.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. tonight and Friday, and after 10 a.m. Saturday.
