Gregory "Gregorio" Mazzatti Sr., 66, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday, November 16, 2010.

Greg was born in Utica on October 21, 1944, son of Sebastian "Sam" and Rosemary (Gentile) Mazzatti. He was educated in local schools and a 1962 graduate of Thomas R. Proctor High School.

On June 29, 1968, he married the love of his life Elaine Latte. They shared over forty two years together.

A well-known local pizza maker, he owned Gregorio's Pizza in East Utica and Syracuse for over thirty years. For the past several years, Greg worked in the circulation department of The Observer-Dispatch and had just retired this year.

He loved nothing more than being around people. He saw only the good in everyone. If he met someone once, he knew them forever. Marr-Logg was one of his favorite places to enjoy the company of his friends. He will be remembered for his kindness, generosity and big heart.

A great fan of sports, Greg traveled all over to watch hockey, football, baseball and basketball, and also owned several racing horses over the years. He was athletic himself and in younger years enjoyed playing tennis, bowling and was a force to be reckoned with on the golf course. He also was an active member of many community organizations through the years.

Although plagued by illness for the last several years, Greg always managed to move forward and maintain his sense of humor. He had a contagious laugh and a smile that will be sadly missed.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Elaine; his four children: Jacquelyn and Theodore Wilkinson of Utica, Gregory Jr. and Tammy (Tillson) Mazzatti of Saratoga Springs, Rebecca and Dale Cavoli of Sauquoit, and Christopher Mazzatti and his fiancé, Lisa Kapps of Utica; sister-in-law, Lauren Latte who lived with him for many years; his grandchildren whom he adored, Lorenzo Sibilia, Giovanni Sibilia and Gregory Markus Mazzatti; his brother, Richard Mazzatti of Rochester; sister-in-law, Cecelia (Ventimiglia) Mazzatti; brother-in-law, Gary and Karen (Banas) Latte of Saratoga Springs; sister-in-law, Judy (Murray) Latte of Saratoga Springs; cousin and best friend, Dominick Gentile and his wife Patricia; and also many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends whom he cherished.

He was predeceased by his parents; brother, Robert Mazzatti; sister-in-law, Betty (Goodness) Mazzatti; brother-in-law, Anthony Latte; and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Marino and Mary (Carleo) Latte.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 585 Trenton Road, Utica, NY. Private interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
