Funeral services for Mr. Billy Ray Cassel, age 80 of Ruston, will be held at Emmanuel Baptist Church at 10 a.m. on Friday, November 19, 2010 with Pastor Michael Hawley officiating. Burial will follow at the Rock Corner Cemetery in Dubach under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston.

Mr. Cassel passed away at his home on Tuesday, November 16, 2010 surrounded by loved ones. He was born August 26, 1930 in Calumete, Oklahoma. Billy moved to Ruston, Louisiana in 1959 with his wife Virginia Otwell Cassel. He worked as a dispatcher for Davison Transport where he retired after 30 years of service. Billy was a veteran of the United States Army and the Naval Reserves, serving as a corporal during the Korean War.

Surviving members of Billy's family include his wife of 60 years, Virginia Otwell Cassel; daughter Carolyn Albritton and husband Joe of Olive Branch, Mississippi; daughter Cindy Hinton and husband Steve of Ruston, Louisiana; daughter Belinda Wisterman and husband Terry of Gibsonville, North Carolina; and son Brian Cassel, also of Ruston. Grandchildren include Jennifer Crawford and husband Jason of Olive Branch, Mississippi; Patricia Hinton Moore of Laurel, Maryland; Wade Hinton and wife Caitlin of Ruston; Brett Hinton, also of Ruston and Sarah, Rebecca and Joseph "Daniel" Wisterman of Gibsonville, North Carolina. Great grandchildren include Hunter, Hayden and Mady Crawford of Olive Branch and Owen Hinton of Ruston. Sisters include Mary Cassel, Bessie Ballard, and Nellie Craft. Billy was preceded in death by grandson Daniel "Tyler" Albritton; parents William and Maggie Cassel; brothers, Jake and Talmedge, and by his sister Betty Weems.

Pallbearers will be Wade Hinton, Brett Hinton, Mike Otwell, Glen Otwell, Harold Shrell and Ernest Jackson. Visitation will be on Thursday, November 18, 2010 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Ruston.
