Their children were Margaretta Forten (suffragist, 1806-1875), Harriet Forten Purvis (abolitionist and suffragist, 1810-1875), Robert Bridges Forten (abolitionist, 1813-1864), Sarah Louisa Forten Purvis (abolitionist, 1814-1884), James Forten, Jr. (abolitionist), William Deas Forten (abolitionist, 1823-1909), Charlotte Forten, Mary Theresa Forten, Thomas Willing Francis Forten (1827-1897).
