The above is the only information besides her name Susan "Harrel" Brinson that was originally on this memorial for her.
As with any memorial I agree to manage, especially one with so little information, I have spent numerous hours attempting to flush out exactly who was Susan Harrell-Brinson. No birth/death dates were provided nor any birth/death locations.

Guesstimate on Susannah's death date is between Feb 1883 - Feb 1885.

Newton and Susannah traveled for work to many states. Indiana, Nebraska and Missouri and their children were born in these various states. Newton is enumerated on 1 March 1885 in Kansas and he lists himself as a widow. So Susannah is dead by 1 March 1885. Her last child born was Mary Catherine Brinson born 18 Feb 1883 in Missouri.

With a high level of confidence, I believe her parents to be Bluford Harrell and Mareney (Marlena) Jackson. It appears Mareney died between 1859-1860, and Bluford remarried to a Lydia Alpy . Susannah is not enumerated as "Susannah" with Bluford and his new wife Lydia in the 1860 census. In that same 1860 census, there is a 4 year old girl named Sophie Harrell, born in 1856. Sophie is not found in any future documentation- so it is very probable that Sophie is Susanna and her full name was Sophie Susannah Harrell.

This particular branch of the Harrel's named their daughters after their mother Sophia Susannah Rosemire-Harrell.
Bluford Harrell's brother John Frederick Harrell had a daughter Sophia Susannah Harrell-Buchanan (1846-1913). Bluford and John's mothers name was Sophia. Bluford and John also had a sister whose name was Sophia Susannah Harrell-Stewart (1832-1912).
So the family history of naming their daughters Sophia Susannah has been established.

In this same cemetery are buried Mareney Jackson-Harrell's parents and some siblings. And as mentioned earlier, Mareney is most likely Susannah's mother.. Mareney's parents in this same cemetery are Elizabeth Harmon-Jackson and Reverend William Jackson. It is probable that Susannah's mother is also buried here. Interesting to note that Susannah and Newton named their 2nd child Charles Jackson Brinson - so there's the connection with the Jackson family.

Susannah is enumerated in the 1870 census as a domestic servant living with an elderly couple in Ripley, Indiana.

On the 2 census's that Susannah participated in, she identified the state she was born in as Indiana. On the 1 census Sophie participated in, she is identified as being born in Indiana. It is very probable Susanna (Sophia) was born in Ripley as was all her siblings before her, with the exception of her youngest brother born in 1859 in Shelby, Indiana.
