CANADIAN - Carol Witt BABITZKE, 64, died Thursday, April 17, 2003, in Tucson, Arizona.
Military graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. Les Hall, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Military rites will be by Altus Air Force Base. Arrangements are by Stickley-Hill Funeral Directors.
Mrs. BABITZKE was born January 16, 1939, in Parkersburg, West Virginia, to Donald Fred and Mary Ruth McDonald WITT. She graduated from Calhoun County High School and West Virginia University. Mrs. BABITZKE married Edward Bert BABITZKE on October 5, 1963, at Lackland Air Force Base.
Mrs. BABITZKE entered the Air Force in 1962. She served in Texas, Alaska, Southeast Asia and Arizona as a personnel officer and received the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal and Vietnam Service Medal with five bronze stars. She retired as a major in November 1989.
Mrs. BABITZKE was a life member of West Virginia University Alumni Association, Germans from Russia Heritage Society and National Rifle Association. She was also a member of American Historical Society of Germans from Russia, Beer Can Collectors of America and American Breweriana Association. She enjoyed hunting and fishing. Mrs. BABITZKE had been living in Tucson since 1969.
Survivors include her husband of Tucson; a brother, Donald WITT and wife, Susan, of Morgantown, West Virginia; two step-sons, Edward BABITZKE of Sioux City, Iowa, and Ricky BABITZKE and wife, Neldine, of East Peoria, Illinois; two nieces; three step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials be to a favorite charity.
