Abraham was the 5th of 11 children born to James Caffey and Rachel Hoover. He married Julia Ann Maberry on 01 Oct 1869 and they had 11 children: James Hardy, Sarah E, Emily Ann, Mary Francis, Margaret Ellie, William Henry, Laura Media, John Wesley, Bocky, Lonnie, and Julia Ann. His wife, Julia, died 08 Jan 1889.

He married Frances Elmira Peoples, widow of John Dempsey Pace, on 02 Jan 1891 in Upshur County, Texas. Abraham and Frances had 7 children: Texas Stella, George, Abraham, Jess, Archie Thomas, David Louie, Minnie Letha.
