Funeral services for Elva Sterner, 91, Richland, were held Oct. 25, at Hagerman Baptist Church, Waterloo, Iowa, with Pastor Mark Shaw officiating. Organist was Mrs. Leo Bergman and soloist was Sherry Teall. Escorts were her grandsons, Perry Ewins, Tim Gielau, David and Mike Sterner, Dan and Jim Murray. Burial was in Garden of Memories at Waterloo. Elva, Daughter of Wesley B. and Emma Wilson Coats, was born April 23, 1897, in Bado, Mo. and died Oct. 21, 1988, at St. John's Regional Health Center, Springfield. On Jan. 13, 1923, she was married to Charles A. Sterner, who preceded her in death in 1960. She was also preceded by two sisters and a brother. She was employed for many years at Rath Packing Co., retiring in 1959. She attended the Hazelgreen Methodist Church. She had lived at the home of her daughter, Norma Ewins, Route 2, Richland, the past eight years. Also surviving are three additional daughters, Glenace Murray of Dora, Dorla Gielau, Cooper City, Fla., and Marie Sterner, Hollywood, Fla.; a son, Jack, Cumberland, Wis.; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Eula Chapman, Harvard, Nev.
