Samuel Haines is the son of John and Catherine Haines. He married Elizabeth Gish 15 Mar 1856 Juanita co, Pa. Children are John, Jacob, Benjamin, Sarah, Barbara, Joseph, Catherine, Martha.
Samuel served as a private with the 208th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, Company I (Civil War)

He married Elizabeth Gish in March 1856 in Juniata County, Pennsylvania, and fathered John Henry (b. 06/28/57), Jacob J. (b. 12/17/59), Benjamin Amos (b. 07/01/62),
Sarah A. (b. 08/02/64 - married Lincoln Smith), Barbara Jane "Jennie" (b. 01/27/67), Joseph , Catherine Minerva (b. 04/11/71 - married Milton Cauliflower), and Martha Elizabeth (b. 02/09/76 - married Charles Galbraith) In 1863, he was a mason living in Liverpool Township, Perry County, Pennsylvania, and stood 5' 7" tall with dark hair and gray eyes.

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Harrisburg August 31, 1864, mustered into federal service there September 3 as a private with Co. I, 208th Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company June 1, 1865.
