An obituary from an unknown source (probably a religious publication).
Bowers- Near Gilboa, Sugar Ridge Church, Hancock county, Ohio, John Bowers, born in Bedford County, Pa., April 30, A.D. 1803. His parents were natives of that State, and moved to Springfield, Jefferson county, Ohio, in the year 1806; moved to Stark county, Ohio, about the year 1820.
He was married to Elizabeth Bysel in the year 1825. This union was blessed with 10 children; 7 sons and 3 daughters. He then removed to Hancock county, Ohio, in the year 1835; lived upon the same farm until his death which occurred July 5, 1887. Disease paralysis. Five days previous to his death he remained unconscious. Age 84 years, 2 month and 6 days.
Of the 10 children, 9 survive him of whom seven attended his funeral services.
Bro. Bowers joined the German Baptist Church about 40 years ago, and soon after the separation, he took his stand with the Old German Baptist Church, and lived faithful to his early profession until death.
During thirty years, he served in the office of deacon. His home has ever been a welcome resort to the brethren, neighbors and friends. He was a good husband, a kind father and obliging neighbor. "His children rise up and call him blessed." He leaves a large circle of friends and relatives to mourn his loss.
The funeral occasion was improved by the brethren, from 2d Timothy, 4th chapter, latter clause of the seventh verse. Samuel Metzger
