WALLA WALLA — Nita Fae Johnson, 79, of Pendleton died Sunday, Oct. 24, 2010, at the Park Manor Rehabilitation Center in Walla Walla. Recitation of the holy rosary was held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 26 in the Burns Mortuary Chapel in Pendleton. Mass of Christian burial was conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27 at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Mission. Burial was in the Athena Cemetery.

Mrs. Johnson was born Sept. 27, 1931, in Walla Walla to William and Maude (Morrisette) LaCourse. She attended school at St. Joseph Academy and Pendleton High School. She married Leslie D. Johnson; they later divorced.

She worked at hospitals, including St. Anthony, as a nurse's aid and retired from her job with the Pendleton School District several years ago. Her final job was volunteering at the Pendleton Senior Center.

Mrs. Johnson is survived by daughter Vickie Johnson and sons William and James Johnson, all of Pendleton, and son Frank of Lewiston, Idaho; sisters Lora Lee Penney and Rita Safford, both of Pendleton; nine grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister Florence Carden; brothers Eldon "Boots" LaCourse and Delbert LaCourse; and daughter-in-law Nancy Johnson.
