Mrs. Jeanette Byrd was a wonderful person, and a great co-worker of mine. Knowing that I am deaf, on her own accord, she went online looking for websites that could teach her how to spell and learn some sign language. She always enjoyed seeing and asking me how & why some signs were created the way they were. She had a friendly personality and was easy to strike up a conversation with. Our workplace was saddened by her passing in her brave fight against breast cancer.

From her obituary that is still online (but not posted here out of respect for family privacy) and from what I know of her:

Mrs. Byrd, 35, of Spotsylvania County, died of breast cancer Saturday, April 20, 2002, at her home. She had worked for a number of years as a computer technician for PEC Solutions. She was a member of Piney Branch Baptist Church.

She was survived by her husband, Alvin "Peco" Byrd; a daughter and Alvin's two children; her parents; her two sisters and three brothers; and her maternal grandmother.

In closing, the gravestone says my sentiments perfectly:

"Gone from our sight
But never our memories
Gone from our touch
But never our hearts".
