BACA: Elena Dominguez Baca, 79, a life long Grant County resident, died Friday in Gila Regional Medical Center. She was born Oct. 15, 1909 in Swartz to two of New Mexico's pioneer families which homesteaded in the Mimbres Valley--the Dominguez and Swartz families. She was a homemaker until her illness prevented it and she spent the last several years in the Homestead Rest Home. She was a member of San Jose Catholic Church of Faywood and the Apostleship of Prayer. Calling hours at Baca's Hillcrest Funeral Chapel in Silver City will be from 2-9 p.m. today where rosary services will be held at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Ricardo Hinojal, Order of Augustinian Recollect, officiating. Calling hours at Baca's Funeral Chapel in Deming will be from 2-5 p.m. Tuesday and rosary services will be held at 7 p.m. in St. Ann's Catholic Church in Deming with the Rev. Francisco Irisarri, O.A.R., officiating. Mass of the Christian burial will be concelebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St. Ann's Catholic Church with Bishop Ricardo Ramirez and his brother priests concelebrating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery in Deming. Survivors include her husband, Eduardo, of Faywood; five sons, Adan of Deming, Ramon of Faywood, and Julian, Fernando "Buddy" and the Honorable Sam Baca of Deming; one daughter, Nora Baca of Deming; four brothers, Valentine Dominguez of Faywood, George Dominguez of Bayard, and Joe and Tom Dominguez of Deming; five sisters, Camilla Lucero, Alberta Galindo and Mary Lozano of Deming, Eva Ortega of Selma, Calif., and Georgia Cortez of Los Angeles, Calif.; 24 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Casket bearers will be her grandsons and honorary bearers will be Manuel Carrillo, Joe B. Dominguez, Dr. George W. O'Sullivan and Angel Zuniga. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jose and Georgia Dominguez; by two brothers, Juan and Ramon Dominguez; and one sister, Rosie Lucero. Entrusted to the care of Baca's Hillcrest Funeral Chapels.
