Mrs. Edith C. Carpenter, Belleville, 86, died June 13 at Republic County Hospital, Belleville.

Funeral services will be held at the Baptist Church, Belleville, Thursday, June 16 at 2 p.m., Rev. Thomas Counts officiating. Interment will be in Ida Cemetery. Bachelor-Faulkner-Dart Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Edith Cora Carpenter, daughter of Henry and Julia Martin Malstead, was born December 2, 1896, on a farm near Beatrice, Nebr. and died June 13, 1983, at the Republic County Hospital, Belleville, at the age of 86 years, six months and 11 days.

She received her elementary education in the Thayer County, Nebr. school system and graduated from Chester high school in 1915. After the death of her father, the family moved to the Munden area, where she taught school until her marriage.

She married Berton W. Carpenter April 30, 1919 and to this union three daughters were born.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bert in 1957; two sisters: Mary Brown and Ethel Craig; one brother, Oliver Malstead.

She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Vera Saunders of Courtland, Mrs. Dale (Marjorie) Stafford of Scandia, Mrs. LaVeda Lane of Saline; eight grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; one sister, Adeline Rieke of Lebanon, Oreg.; one brother, Chris Malstead of Clyde.

Funeral services were held June 16, at the Baptist Church in Belleville, conducted by the Rev. Thomas Counts. Interment was in Ida Cemetery.
