Melisa Jennings father was Anderson Jennings, her mother Verlinda Hancock. Melisa married William Houston Harris on Jan 2, 1856. They had a very large family; four boys and five girls. Among the girls, Melisa gave birth to a set of healthy twins, one of which was my husband's 3rd great grandmother.
Anderson Jerome Harris 1856-1934
Alfred Holton Harris 1856-1860
Elizabeth Harris 1860-1860
Mary Novella Harris Hill Parsons twin (great grandmother) 1861-1921
Ruth Ann Harris Witt twin 1861-1922
William Houston Harris Jr 1863-1919
Matty Harris 1865-1867
Jesse Lee Harris 1868-1946
Lillie Harris Baird 1872-1963.
The photo of Melisa Jennings Harris is from my private family collection, Debbie McMurry.
Per the Milan Exchange newspaper, Mrs. Harris died at her mother's home in Wilson County, Tennessee. There is an empty plot next to her husband in Humboldt. Although, with this info from the newspaper, she may be buried in Wilson County. The distance would have been too great, over 160 miles by wagon. If Melisa were buried with her husband, he would have erected a marker for her.
