Visitation is Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial is in the National Cemetery Rock Island Arsenal, with military graveside rites conducted by the Moline American Legion Post # 246. Mr. McCreight died Monday, April 30, 2007, at his home, after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born August 12, 1938, in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Loraine Leonard and Martha (Cling) McCreight. He served in the Marine Corps from 1961 to 1964. He worked as a diesel mechanic at both Ruan and Wenger Truck Lines. He belonged to the National Rifle Association. An avid NASCAR and Dale Earnhardt Sr. fan, he also was very loyal to the Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Cubs and Bears. He spent many enjoyable days fishing and playing golf. Memorials may be made to the family.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Ronda McCreight, Blue Grass, Iowa; a daughter, Lori Wilson, Phoenix, Ariz.; grandchildren, Ryan, Tyler, Kelsey, Caitlyn, Ronnie, Ricky, Randy, Ashley and Aleah; brother, Roger (Ruth) McCreight, Tuscon, Ariz.; sisters, Sharon (Gerald) Schmidt, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Barbara (Douglas) Cromwell, Queen City, Texas, and Edna (Lamoyne) Thompson and Kathy ( Ronald) Dehning, both of Decorah, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, William Sylvanus. God saw him getting tired, and a cure was not to be. So he put his arms around him and whispered "come with me." With tearful eyes we watched him and saw him pass away, although we loved him dearly, we could not make him stay. A golden heart stopped beating; hardworking hands at rest, God broke our hearts to prove to us, he only takes the best.
