Doniphan resident Earl A. Portenier, 90, died Saturday, July 27, 1996, at Community Care of America in Grand Island.

Services are 1 p.m. Tuesday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home chapel in Grand Island with the Rev. Roland Going officiating. Burial will be 4 p.m. in the Guide Rock Cemetery at Guide Rock. Visitation is 8 a.m. until services Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Portenier was born July 28, 1905, to Jacob H. and Albi (Sidlo) Portenier in Guide Rock. He attended school in the Eckley community. He graduated from Eckley Consolidated High School in 1922. He attended Kearney State College summer sessions. He taught in rural schools in Webster County for several years. On July 28, 1926, he married Irma Reeve in Red Cloud. They farmed in the Inavale and Eckley area. In 1952 they moved to Lafayette County, Fla. He farmed and ranched until retiring in 1960. He and his wife moved to New Port Richey, Fla. In 1985 they returned to Nebraska. In 1987 he moved to Community Care where he was an Alzheimer's patient.

He was a member of the Masons and Scottish Rite Aphasia. He was a Knight Commander in the Court of Honor and later was honored as a 33rd degree Scottish Rite Mason.

Survivors are his wife; two daughters, Dorothy Williams of Lincoln and Eileen Richardson of Doniphan; two brothers, Ralph and Keith, both of Hastings; one sister, Helen Bosley of Hastings; three grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by an infant brother.

Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer's Association, Shriner's Hospital or the donor's choice.
