The Gossen funeral home of Rayne in charge of arrangements.

Joseph Calvin Andrus was born in Plaquemine Brullee, (now known as Branch) on October 15, 1856, the son of Solomon Andrus and Jane Hayes, his wife. He lived in that section all his life, where his ancestors for over 100 years back, had lived and died and cultivated the soil. He married Miss Frances Theozia Devillier, who proceeded him in death in 1927, after which Mr. Andrus retired from his occupation of farmer and lived with his daughter in Church Point. He was a lifelong member of the Methodist church at Branch and will be buried by the rites of that church.

He is survived by five daughters, Mrs. J. W. White of Crowley; Mrs. N.A. Harmon of Church Point; Mrs. H.P. Barousse of Crowley; Mrs. Louis Stelly of Opelousas; and Mrs. M.A. Rome, Mission, Texas; and three sons, Cameron Andrus of Branch; Dorris Andrus and Roy Andrus of Rayne, and a large number of grandchildren and lesser relatives.

A sturdy Christian character who always saw the good in everyone and refused to believe or speak ill of anyone, he was beloved by everyone who was privileged to know him well.
