Aunt Edna became very sick and knew of her coming death, though we have never learned of what the illness was. Uncle John L. at the time was a bit on the wild side and liked to drink some, but he always took care of Edna and Juanita, taking pride in the pretty baby girl he had been given. Later in life, he became a Baptist preacher.
Sometime during her illness, Edna had asked her older sister Maude to please look out for Juanita. Aunt Edna died when Juanita was only around 3 years old. Instead of just making sure Juanita was ok, Maude took her away from Uncle John L. and adopted her. Uncle John L. didn't have the money to fight her.
Aunt Maude & Uncle Lon lived in Savannah, GA.
Uncle John L married a second time and they had a daughter. I do not know the names of his 2nd wife, nor that of his daughter. He became a preacher during this time and lived on St. Simons Island, GA.
He performed the marriage of my brother and his 1st wife in 1990.
Effie was his 3rd wife.
