Raymond Joseph LeBlanc, 63, of Ragley died at 6:04 AM on Monday, October 4, 2010 in a local hospital.
Raymond was born in Crowley on December 6, 1946 to Preston LeBlanc and Edith (Harrington) Leblanc, both deceased. He lived in the Moss Bluff and in the Ragley area most of his life. He graduate from Sam Houston High School in Moss Bluff. He was in the Naval Reserves, receiving an honorable discharge in 1966. He joined the 3rd degree Knights of Columbus in Moss Bluff in 1968. Raymond was responsible for starting the Knights of Columbus in Ragley in December 1977, held the office of Grand Knight, Financial Secretary and District Deputy. He was inducted into the Knights of Columbus Hall of Fame. He joined the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, and became Faithful Navigator of the 4th degree in 1988. He was a Cub Scout Master in 1978 and a Weblo leader in 1981.
He was a volunteer Fireman with the Moss Bluff Fire Department from 1968-1973. Raymond was instrumental in forming the Beauregard Fire Department in Dist. 2. He was the first fire chief of Meadow Village Station in Ragley and was also on the Fire Board. He was also an Emergency Medical Technician and received the EMT of the year award in 1983, for saving a man's life at a wreck on the Ragley overpass.
Raymond did many other things during his life such as, serving as State Financial Secretary for the Louisiana Injured Workers Union for two terms, he was an auctioneer, he started the CMRA lawnmower racing club in Lake Charles, and was the first President of the club. He also worked at PPG for 22 years as a carpenter.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, his high school sweetheart, Glenda (Richard) LeBlanc of 44 years; two sons, Raymond Glen of Midland, TX and wife Karin (Todd) and their sons, Kristopher and Jeremy Johnson of Texas and John Aaron and wife Cheryl (Daniels) and son Chris Daniels of Moss Bluff; two brothers, Robert and wife Sandra and Billy and wife Terry all of Moss Bluff; and one sister, Edith Montgomery of Marietta, GA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be sent to the HHT Foundation at HHT Foundation International, Inc., P.O. Box 329, Monkton, MD 21111, in memory of Raymond LeBlanc to further research study to find a cure for the disease that robbed him of his life.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 9, 2010 at St. Pius Catholic Church in Ragley, LA. Monsignor Charles Dubois will officiate. Cremation was entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home.
