Pioneer Resident Dies at Home of Son In Greenville.
Mrs. Nancy Bass, the aged mother of Alderman Walter H Bass of the first ward died at his home at 11 o'clock Tuesday night after an illness of 16 days with an attack of stomach, trouble. The funeral was held at one o'clock today at the residence of her son on East Harris avenue by Rev. Warren E. Wise assisted by Rev. W. T. Carpeater, palter of the First Baptist church. The interment took place in the Old Camp Ground cemetery south of Greenville. Mrs. Bass maiden name was Nancy Goodson and she was a member of one of the oldest families in the county. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Spencer Goodson and was born August 15 1838 in Beaver Prairie and made her home in Bond county during her entire lifetime. She became the bride of Henry Bass, another representative of Bond county's oldest families Aug 19 1854 and to this union 30 children were born, five of whom survive. They are Walter of this city, Leonard of Putnam Okla, Edward of Mountain Air NM, Mrs. GW Ulmer of this city and Mrs Abbie Vawagniaux of New Windsor, Colo. She is also survived by two brothers, Robert Goodson of Beavercreek and BF Goodson of Taylorville and one sister Mrs. Sophronia Shelton of Pittsburg Kans. Among those, from a distance to attend the funeral were her son Leonard and her brother of Taylorville, her daughter Mrs. Abbie Vawagniaux of New Windsor Colo, Dr. JL Goodson of Springfield, Sam Avis of Troy, nephews, Mrs. Sopbrona Hesliger and Mrs. Jennie Waddel and Mrs. Francis Kile all of Taylorville, nieces of the decedent.

Bass, Henry passed away at his home near Gathon, July 24, 1898, aged 65 years, 3 months and 2 days. Mr. Bass was born in Fayette county, Illinois, April 22, 1833 and was the sixth child of the family of 12 children of Guilford and Mary Ann Proctor Bass. Mr. Bass married 1854 Nancy Goodson, daughter of Spencer Goodson, a native of Kentucky. To them were born ten children, two of whom died in infancy, Charles and Guilford. The remainder with the widow survive. They are William Bass of Laramie City, Wyoming, Mrs. Abbie Pache of Laramie, Wyoming, George, Ed, Walter, Louie, Leonard and Mrs. Leonnie Ulmer of Bond county. Burial was at the Camp Ground cemetery.
